Family First: The Lain Legacy of Love, Art, and Unity

Meet Chris and Tina Lain: business owners, family-focused, and powerfully creative, these two have been through all types of adventures to get to where they are now as a couple. We asked them to tell their story and give us a glimpse behind the curtain to learn what success in marriage means to them after over thirty-four years together. Tina describes their thoughts below.

Chris Lain is founder, tattooer, and painter with Pinnacle Tattoo. He spent his early childhood on the family farm, Knolle Farms, in Sandia Texas until his family moved to Corpus Christi. Tina Lain is founder, cosmetic and restorative tattoo artist with Gold Dust Cosmetic Collective. Originally from Scottsdale, Arizona, she moved to Corpus Christi in 1991 and met Chris that same year. Tina had some opportunities in Austin and the couple maintained a long distance courtship with the lost art of handwritten love letters sent via snail mail, endless hours of rotary long distance phone calls, and spontaneous plane tickets. All of this provided a beautiful beginning to a relationship deeply rooted in friendship. Tina moved back to Corpus Christi, and in April, 1999, they were married.

Tell us about your beliefs on marriage:
My perspective and thoughts on marriage have never wavered. At my core, I believe we need each other at every season of our life. In our early years, we lean on and into our maternal / paternal family dynamic to provide us with what will serve as our fundamental foundation. In our adolescence, our friends, peers, teachers, coaches, and the like take a front and center role in our development. In our adult life, while we’re still nurturing who we are, our experiences culminated up to this point establish our core values. We will attract like minded individuals, and together, we become a stable center to our spouse, providing an environment where both partners feel emotionally secure, comfortably supported, and have a safe sense of predictability.

Having now lived more of our lives together in unity than we have apart in independence, we know from experience in this lifetime, if we are lucky, we will and have grown-up, grown-in, grown-out, and circled back to self and serving each other many times over and always with a slightly different version of ourselves. In this, we afford each other the opportunity to feel and express our respective feelings and emotions while simultaneously nurturing one another and our relationship. It’s important to acknowledge perfect doesn’t exist, we will never have a perfect marriage, but together we will always be our best. We are the pairing of worn leather and delicate lace, the balance of both strength and softness, a complement designed for one another.

How do you work to resolve conflict and who do you go to for support?
Chris is the calm to my cool, his naturally neutral temperament was an immediate attraction. He is and always has been a brilliant communicator.  I on the other hand, keep conflict close to my chest and typically remain tight-lipped. I’ve had to learn how to open myself up to a discussion and receive resolution.

Initially, our style of defusing a dispute varied drastically. I am a master at compartmentalization while Chris is equally proficient in deconstructing and dissolving any and all issues. Together, we’ve successfully navigated (with many hurdles, obstacles, detours, and pitfalls in between) our lifetime together. I generally need a minute to breathe and contemplate my thoughts before discussing. Chris is ready for conversation immediately. Chris has made me a better version of myself with every challenge overcome. “Just as Tina has made me the man I am today,” says Chris.

We are firm believers in keeping our personal life personal. It is the magic that makes us, us and the fiber that keeps our family safely woven in a protective love. With that said, we readily acknowledge we’ve had our fair share of familial trials and tribulations. Experiencing these challenges are both normal and expected in every healthy relationship. It’s how we choose to face our challenges that puts a purpose in our path.

Together, in unity, we diligently work to overcome both personal and professional adversities. We’ve utilized marriage counseling services in the past, and while we didn’t necessarily learn new tools or communication skills, having a third party (non familial member) act as a sounding board, directing discussions, proved invaluable. We will never walk in front or behind one another, always arm-in-arm and side-by-side, knowing together we will overcome every obstacle.

What adventures have brought you closer together?
What we’ve learned over the course of our many adventures shared is… with our countless list of top-10 adventures, there have also been navigational disagreements, we’ve been lost or stuck on more than one occasion, we’ve tasted flavors we never want on our palettes again, we’ve driven on fumes, and walked through the forest with blisters on our feet, and in all of it, in the mud and muck, we have wished for one more night
because we were together.

Chris has taught me, perspective is everything. We can share a weekend in the hill country or weeks abroad and both adventures will yield cherished memories (there will also be the ones we hope to soon forget, the truthful balance of life).

Not as much of an adventure most would think of, but upon reading and writing our answer to this question together, I couldn’t help but think of how the loss of my parents brought Chris and I closer together. To lose one parent is difficult. To lose both within six-months was nearly devastating. So while not touring the bright city lights, walking quaint cobblestone streets, or taking in picturesque planes, navigating the loss of a loved one is indeed an emotional, spiritual, and physical journey (adventure). One when guided alone can be most excruciating, but when supported by your spouse, while still painful, the days are brighter and the nights bearable.

Adventures are meant to be lived daily. Whether it is in the highest peaks climbed or the lowest valley hiked, we feel a deep sense of gratitude for all of it, the life we have worked so hard to create, our own. Don’t wait for a plane or train ticket, make your adventures your own; an impromptu picnic in the park, or a surprise outing to the pet store with your grandchildren for a leopard gecko (true story), every experience can be our best one until our next one. Our lives are meant to be our own. Create the one you wish to live every single day, not just on holiday!!

What’s your favorite date night?
Our views on the ultimate date look a little different at the start, but end the same way… Now living in our ‘Free Bird’ era, date night is every night we share together. As small business owners, our schedules don’t permit for many spontaneous weekday dates, so we religiously plan monthly weekends away making sure to disconnect from the hustle and reconnect with one another. Chris’ take on the ultimate date night is one that turns into a date morning. A simple man, he likes what he likes, and it seems he likes me. Lucky me!!

What can couples do to stay together?
Unlike most questions, we answered this one separately. We  laughed at how similar our responses were.

Tina: Connect. Disconnect. Reconnect. Repeat. If you are fortunate, through the course of your marriage, you will fall in love with a variant or version of the person you married over and over and over again. You will also experience periods where your spouse is not your favorite person. That’s okay too. Remembering to love someone does not equate to always liking their behavior. The evolution of self must serve your spouse as much as it does yourself.

Chris: Couples need to be open to the evolution of the marriage as well as each other. Life is long and there will be many instances that will take place and shape who we are as individuals within the relationship. Those experiences will also change the dynamic of the marriage. In moving forward as a unit, it is a helpful to be accepting of those changes in your spouse.

What does legacy mean to you?
We have two sons, Christian (Sierra) and Carson (Evieonna). Being their parents has given us the opportunity to nurture a familial foundation for generations ahead. A gift we don’t take lightly and a responsibility we cherish daily, more so on our hardest days.

We have three grandchildren, Luca West, Julian Thomas (Christian and Sierra) and Leyla Marie (Carson and Evieonna). The joys of the second act emulate the first, but with a wiser perspective based on life experiences shared with our own children.

A simple rule of three: be present, be prepared, and be willing to pour into your family. In doing so, we are fortunate enough to share a beautiful relationship with our adult sons based on a mutual respect and appreciation for one another.

From father to sons, the art of tattooing has been passed down as a sacred rite, not merely a trade, but as a way of living boldly, colorfully, authentically. We are a family bound by more than blood. Artistic tales through the use of pigment and skin will share our stories long after we’ve left and the generations ahead continue on.

The apprenticeship Chris provided our sons, Christian and Carson, was never just an artistic instruction. Rather, it was and continues to be an example of trust, patience, and the quiet power of tradition unfolding in our home and our studios. Every line drawn carries more than pigment. It carries memory and meaning. It carries us.

This is our family’s legacy—not just what we leave, but what we’ve built, together, creating art that will last the test of time, carrying forward a family tradition of artistic excellence, honoring what came before us, where we are today, and what we will leave behind. While we are their foundation, our sons, by their own design, are the future of the Lain Legacy.

How we met:

We met in middle school through my best friends, who used to joke that I should marry their cousin William so we could all be family one day. At the time, we laughed it off—but as life would have it, one thing led to another. Now, here we are: my best friends really did become family, and so did William—my husband.

The proposal:

William owns horses, and I’ve always loved helping care for them. One day I went out to help him feed, just like any other day. But this time, hidden in the feed bag was a ring box. When I turned around, he was down on one knee. It was the sweetest surprise—simple, thoughtful, and perfectly us.

Favorite detail:

Bride: The most unique part was how surrounded by love we felt. It wasn’t about the flowers or the cake—it was about the people, the stories, and that feeling of home.
Groom: Hands down, seeing her. The way she looked, the way she smiled—it was like everything else disappeared. And then the cake knife broke mid-slice and we couldn’t stop laughing. Nothing went exactly as planned, but it was real, it was us, and it was perfect.

Favorite moment:

Bride: Our first dance—even though we were both panicking about messing it up. We had no idea what we were doing, but somehow we pulled it off without stepping on each other (too much). 
Groom: Watching her walk down the aisle. We hadn’t seen each other all day, and when those doors opened, it finally felt real. That’s
the moment everything clicked—I was really about to marry her.

Biggest challenge:

Bride and Groom: Cutting the cake!

Funniest moment:

Bride: When it came time to cut the cake, the knife literally broke in our hands—and sliced my finger open! It wasn’t serious, but it definitely caught us off guard. We all burst out laughing, and thankfully it was all caught on camera. Who knew cake-cutting could be so dangerous?

If you could do one thing over:

Bride & Groom: Honestly? Nothing! It was perfectly imperfect in all the best ways—and we wouldn’t change a thing… except maybe sneaking home with more cake.

Advice for couples:

Bride: Take time to enjoy the little moments. It’s easy to get caught up in the details, but the real magic is in the quiet, simple moments you share with each other.
Groom: Don’t stress about having a perfectly timed schedule—some of the best moments happen when you just let the day flow. Trust me, no one will remember if you were 10 minutes late… but they will remember the joy, the laughter, and how good the cake was.

Why you got married:

Bride & Groom: I can say for us both, marriage is a sacred covenant—a commitment not just to each other, but to God. We got married because we believe in building a life rooted in faith, love, and service. Our Catholic faith reminds us that marriage isn’t just about the big day—it’s about choosing each other every day, with grace, patience, and purpose.

How to make your spouse happy:

Bride: Listen, laugh often, and never underestimate the power of snacks.
Groom: Support their dreams—even
if that dream is reorganizing the closet for the third time this month.

What you look forward to most:

Bride: I look forward to all the weird little routines we’ll create—like arguing over what to watch, stealing each other’s fries, and being perfectly happy doing nothing together in our pajamas by 8 p.m.
Groom: Honestly? Having my best friend by my side every day. Someone to laugh with, team up with, and remind me where I left my wallet.

More advice for couples:

Bride: Don’t over-complicate the day. When you’re marrying the right person, everything else just falls into place. The timeline, the details, the little hiccups—they’re not what you’ll remember. What sticks with you is the way it felt: calm, joyful, like home.
Groom: If I could tell other couples one thing, it’d be this: don’t get too caught up in the planning or the pressure for things to be perfect. The little things—like the cake knife breaking or laughing in the middle of the ceremony—those are the moments you’ll remember most.

How we met:

We met in Geography class in 9th grade at Tuloso Midway High School. We got together senior year and have been inseparable ever since.

The proposal:

We rented a Condo at Lively Beach on New Year’s Eve weekend in 2022. Alan decided to book it last minute, so I was a little suspicious because we had talked about just staying home for New Year’s. We went on a morning walk on the beach December 30th, and he proposed on the beach near a big flock of birds.

Favorite detail:

Bride: I coordinated with my cousin’s mariachi band to have them perform War Pigs by Black Sabbath as a surprise for Alan. We also had an emo hour during the reception where we danced to all our favorite emo songs: Welcome to the Black Parade, Misery Business, Helena, etc.
Groom: I liked that we both looked really good (her just a little better than me). She had an amazing dress and I had a custom suit that I looked and felt great in.

Favorite moment:

Bride: Walking down the aisle, or our first look!
Groom: Getting to celebrate with all my friends and family on the dance floor during the “emo hour.”

Biggest challenge:

Bride: Seeing people’s true colors come out as the wedding got closer.
Groom: Communication with vendors. Some things were changing and needing to be handled up to the day of the wedding.

Funniest moment:

Bride: When a family member who wasn’t even invited to the wedding turned the bouquet toss into the Hunger Games.

If you could do one thing over:

Bride: Try not to stress out about the small stuff because it all worked out, and I would make sure all of our guests knew that our wedding was kid-free.
Groom: Try to plan more downtime to just enjoy the moment.

Advice for couples:

Bride: Remember that you are getting married because you love each other and it’s your special day, so be sure to include everything that you want to do in your wedding day. Also remember to be present, because the day goes by so fast!!
Groom: Planning the wedding yourselves can be easier if you break everything down and split up the tasks.

Why you got married:

Bride: I truly found my other half and he makes my life better.
Groom: Being there to support one another—a shoulder to lean on, cry with, and lots of laughter. Being there for each other no matter what.

How to make your spouse happy:

Bride: Be understanding and listen to them when they’re talking about their passions. Make them feel seen and heard.
Groom: Little surprises and gifts every so often, even if small, like a bouquet of flowers, favorite pastry, or snack.

What you look forward to most:

Bride: Building our lives together and making even more memories now that the stress of wedding planning is gone, and going on our honeymoon!
Groom: Getting to spend forever together, and all the funny moments and experiences that are sure to come.

How we met:

Matthew and I are high school sweethearts! We met at London High School and dated for 9 years before we got married!

The proposal:

Matthew proposed to me at one of our favorite places, Cinnamon Shore!

Favorite detail:

Bride: The wallpaper Tiffany installed throughout the reception! We had it back behind the band, as well as on the bars!  Groom: I love to fish so it was an awesome surprise to have a local fly fisherman from Rockport, TX tying flies. Big hit with the guys!

Favorite moment:

Bride & Groom: By far our favorite moment was our last dance. Matthew and I love to dance! It was the best, chatting about all of the amazing moments throughout the most perfect night, just us two, while dancing to “When a Man Loves a Woman” by Percy Sledge.

If you could do one thing over:

Bride: To relive that entire day! It truly could not have been more perfect, fun, and filled with love!

Advice for couples:

Bride: It is one of the most special times in your life. Have fun & celebrate every single detail and moment!

How we met:

My husband and I actually met through work — he’s an engineer and I’m in sales. The first time I saw him, I remember thinking, “Who is that guy?” He used to blush every time he looked at me, which was honestly so sweet. But despite all of that, neither of us ever made the first move. It wasn’t until a mutual coworker, who we now jokingly call our “cupid,” decided to step in and set us up that we finally started talking and eventually dating.

The proposal:

When John decided to propose, his mom gave him her own wedding ring to use—such a meaningful and emotional gesture. He planned the proposal at home. It was raining, and while I commuted to the office, he stayed home, saying he was waiting for a repairman. I didn’t suspect a thing. When I got home, he looked genuinely worried and told me something bad had happened.
We have a little patio where I keep my plants, and he said the cat had been out there for a while and completely destroyed them. Panicked, I rushed to the door to check, but instead of a disaster, I found the patio covered in red rose petals, candles everywhere, and a big sign on the wall that read, “Viviana, would you make me the happiest man ever?”

Favorite detail:

Bride: Besides the beautiful setting at Knolle Farm & Ranch—having my family from abroad with us, and giving them a true Texas country experience.
Groom: The venue, the wildlife and being out there in the country.

Favorite moment:

Bride: One of the most meaningful moments of my life was walking down the aisle with my grandpa, and being delivered into the arms of my husband. In that moment, I felt the beauty of closing one chapter and the joy of beginning our journey together.
Groom: Our first dance.

Biggest challenge:

Bride & Groom: The only challenge we faced was arranging transportation for our out-of-town guests.

Funniest moment:

Bride: When I was saying my vows,
I accidentally said I would laugh at him instead of laugh with him.
Groom: When I asked the officiant if I could kiss her again, we had a wedding translator there in Spanish for my wife’s family who don’t
speak English.

If you could do one thing over:

Bride & Groom: Nothing, it was absolutely perfect.

Advice for couples:

Bride: Enjoy every single moment—the day goes by so quickly! Have fun but don’t drink too much, you’ll want to remember it all.
Groom: Don’t stress about pleasing others. It’s your moment!

Why you got married:

Bride: When I met him, I knew he was unlike anyone else. The way he spoke to me and treated me made me feel truly seen, loved, and protected. In that moment, I knew without a doubt that I would spend the rest of my days doing the same for him.
Groom: Because I want to share my life with the women I love.

How to make your spouse happy:

Bride: Giving him space to do the things he enjoys, because I know
how important that is to him.
Groom: Surprising her with flowers, which she loves, and through acts of service.

What you look forward to most:

Bride & Groom: Growing old together!

More advice for couples:

Bride & Groom: Get a good organizer for your wedding!

How we met:

We were in choir together at the Corpus Christi Cathedral for years, but it was not until a choir trip to Rome in December 2015 when we finally connected and began dating shortly after, and the rest is history.

The proposal:

He proposed at a spot along the bayfront where we used to park his car and share music with each other when we first started dating. It was just the two of us as the sun was setting, and it was just perfect!

Favorite detail:

Bride: Having the privilege to be marred inside the Cathedral right before they started extensive renovations, so we got to have it look the same as it was when we were  growing up there.
Groom: The people we celebrated with.

Favorite moment:

Bride: The vows.
Groom: Our first dance.

Biggest challenge:

Bride: Budgeting.
Groom: Invitation list.

Funniest moment:

Bride: When we thought my dress broke as my sister was zipping it up before the ceremony, I almost had a panic, but can laugh about it now.

How we met:

We met on the playground of our elementary school in third grade. As the years went on, we found ourselves growing closer and closer as friends. By high school we spent nearly every available moment together, oblivious to the feelings we held for each other. These feelings persisted into college, where a summer break awarded us yet another moment together and an opportunity to finally let the cat out of the bag. To our delight, our feelings were requited, and so began the official portion of a twelve-year courtship.

The proposal:

It was the perfect Sunday in San Antonio. We started the morning with breakfast at one of our favorite diners before taking a long walk through Brackenridge Park. As the afternoon faded, Will suggested we have a fire at one of the picnic tables, the very spot where I used to celebrate birthdays with my grandfather and family. I noticed he seemed a little nervous while I was packing our basket, but I brushed it off. As the sun began to set, Will popped the question!

Favorite detail:

Bride: Having our ceremony at Chapel on the Dunes was so special. As an art history lover, I’ve always admired Jonathan Cobb’s work, and his murals made the little chapel feel almost otherworldly. On top of that, the Forzet String Quartet filled the space with such beautiful music that it felt like magic.
Groom: We chose our venue because it was central to our relationship. We tied the knot on the very same beach where we had grown up surfing together, just a short walk from where I had fallen in love with her. It was not grandiose or opulent by any measure. It was simply beautiful and meaningful to us.

Favorite moment:

Bride: When we arrived at the reception, my mother and father-in-law surprised us with a mariachi group! I still get emotional thinking about such a thoughtful gesture — it was an amazing way to celebrate my Mexican heritage and made the night feel even more meaningful. 
Groom: We danced to Nat King Cole’s “I Could Have Danced All Night” to close out our reception. I caught a glimpse of her smile as we were dancing and it was the brightest, most beautiful smile I’d ever seen. Nothing could have made me happier than seeing the joy on her face in that moment.

Biggest challenge:

Bride: It was hard not to feel overwhelmed at times. Thankfully I leaned on our wedding planner and my family when it would get too much—important to have a support system.
Groom: I wanted to keep our wedding small. We were extremely fortunate to have so many people who wanted to celebrate us, I wanted to make sure both of our families had the opportunity to really celebrate joining as one. This led to challenges as we had many people we were not able to host, despite our gratitude for their support.

Funniest moment:

Bride: Even though I knew Chapel on the Dunes would be sandy and rustic, I didn’t quite expect how much of the landscape I’d be carrying with me! After walking up the dune with my dad and down the aisle, my dress was full of sticks, leaves, and sand. By the time I stepped onto the altar, everyone, myself included, couldn’t stop laughing.
Groom: My wife had carefully selected the song she was going to walk down the aisle to, and on the day of our wedding, she instead jumped the gun and popped into the church while our quartet was still playing “Mr. Blue Sky”, the song I had chosen to play beforehand. I appreciated her eagerness to start our marriage and our lives together. “Mr. Blue Sky” is now one of her favorite songs.

If you could do one thing over:

Bride: I loved my wedding dress so much, I did not want to have an outfit change. The only thing I didn’t consider was my train getting in everyone’s way all night!
Groom: We were both so caught up in the excitement of the reception, I’m not sure either on of us took a long enough break from dancing to actually eat a slice of our cake. It was delicious, I’m told.

Advice for couples:

Bride: Soak up every moment.
Groom: We made an effort to celebrate each other during our wedding. It can be difficult to avoid being a crowd-pleaser when planning a party with so many guests. Do what makes you happy. Assuming you’ve invited the right people, they’ll be happy too.

Why you got married:

Bride: Will is my best friend. He truly makes my life brighter. I don’t remember life before him, and I don’t want to experience life without him. He has a way of turning even the simplest moments into something joyful; who would have thought that trips to H-E-B or Lowe’s on Sundays would be something I look forward to? After over 16 years of knowing each other, we’ve learned how to take on life as a team, supporting one another through the highs and the lows.
Groom: I’ve married my best friend. There is no one I’ve enjoyed sharing experiences with more than Sarah, and nothing was truly complete for me until I had done so. I now have the luxury of sharing the rest of my life with her. I no longer have to think to myself, “if only Sarah could see this,” or “I wonder what Sarah would do about this.” The greatest moments of my life I will get to celebrate with the greatest person I know. In the hardest times, I will at least have her, and that’s really all that I need.

How to make your spouse happy:

Bride: Take an interest in your partner’s hobbies! I’ve never been much of an outdoorsy person, but I’ve made it a point to step out of my comfort zone and explore National and State Parks with Will. Spending quality time together doing something he loves has been a blast and it doesn’t hurt that Will was an Eagle Scout, making the trips a little easier (and a lot more fun!).
Groom: I married a woman who appreciates good food, and that was no accident. There’s nothing a good meal can’t fix in our household.

What you look forward to most:

Bride: I am looking forward to traveling more with Will. We are going to Argentina and are counting down the days to experience a new culture and learn from the world around us.
Groom: I look forward to finding a new appreciation for what I previously considered mundane, routine parts of the day. Waking up to make her a cup of coffee in the mornings and washing the dishes after she’s made us a delicious dinner gives me a sense of purpose in the moments that I used to think of as chores. Small gestures that show her I care for her make me feel fulfilled.

How they met:

Our love story is a beautiful testament to the power of enduring love. Over the course of a decade, our relationship has grown, evolved, and blossomed into a deep and unwavering connection. Our journey began during our senior year in high school. Our mutual friends planned a lake day, and of course we both went, and caught a spark with each other. We talked and laughed, played some baseball, where Krianna got hit in the face with the ball, but that didn’t stop us from having fun, only created fun memories to think back on. Since that lake day, we continued to get closer and closer. We supported each other at every one of our sporting events and cheered each other on. From that moment on, we embarked on a remarkable adventure together. Through great triumphs and challenges, our love has only strengthened with time. With every passing year, our band has deepened and we’ve built a life filled with cherished memories and shared dreams. This 10 year love story is not just about the passage of time, but a celebration of the enduring, passionate, unbreakable love that has brought us to our wedding day, where we’ll start a new chapter together as one through God.

The proposal:

On October 6, 2023, we celebrated our 10-year anniversary, and I knew it was the perfect time to propose. I had planned an evening at the beach, imagining a picnic by the ocean, a warm fire flickering as the sunset painted the sky, and I would ask her to be mine forever. But, as often happens, the universe had its own plans. We arrived long after the sun had set, the firewood was drenched by the sea, and the picnic food became a buffet for the bugs. Despite all the setbacks, the moment felt right when one of our songs began to play. After dancing, which felt like an eternity, I finally mustered the courage to drop to one knee and ask her to marry me. I can’t remember the exact words I said, but all I recall is her tear-filled eyes, a huge smile, and a nod of yes. In that moment, the imperfect night became exactly what it was meant to be: the beginning of forever.

Favorite detail:

Bride: I loved every detail about our table décor. The colors and arrangements looked so simple, but beautiful.
Groom: I loved our ceremony, especially because it took place in the church we attend every Sunday. Also incorporating our family traditions, like having padrinos and madrinas, made the ceremony even more meaningful.

Favorite moment:

Bride: My favorite moment was at our ceremony. Fr. Raju spoke beautifully about Joe and I & about the power of the love that we share.
Groom: My favorite moment was undoubtedly seeing my now-wife walk down the aisle. It was as if time stood still, and I knew, without a doubt, that I was the luckiest person in the world.

Biggest challenge:

Bride: The biggest challenge of wedding planning was choosing vendors. There are honestly so many good vendors out there. It all came down to who was communicating the best while getting information and who talked to us with such great energy. There was one vendor that we chose where communication wasn’t the best and it became challenging because the day was getting closer and we were getting more stressed, but thankfully they did come through at the end.
Groom: I think the biggest challenge was ensuring we had every detail covered and nothing important was overlooked. While the planning went smoothly overall, there was always that underlying sense of wanting everything to be perfect. What made it easier, though, was that Krianna and I are both very “go with the flow” people. I knew that if something went off track, we would be able to adapt and handle it together. That flexibility was key, and it really helped ease any stress along the way.

Funniest or most embarrassing moment:

Bride: The funniest moment for me was when we were doing our first dance, we messed up on a rehearsed part and Joe saved us. Right after he saved us from messing up badly he made a face like “Did you see that” and it made me laugh as well as others who probably saw. Even better that Laura caught it on camera.
Groom: I think the funniest moment for me was watching one of our flower girls, Krianna’s 2-year-old niece, walk back up the aisle to pick up the flower petals she had dropped. It was so unexpected and absolutely adorable. It really helped me laugh and gather myself as the ceremony began.

If you could do one thing over:

Bride: Just relive the whole night over again. It was so much fun and it went by way to fast! We had all of our favorite people with us.
Groom: I would make sure to shave and comb my hair in the morning. The whole morning was a blur that I didn’t realize I didn’t shave until the ceremony.

Advice for future brides and grooms:

Bride: Do the planning together and decide on things together. It’s a lot less stressful when you both put in work to make your wedding day special. And also remember, your wedding day is just one day, marriage is every day. Make time for your Holy Sundays together and pray for great days ahead. Stick together, laugh together, have FUN always.
Groom: Embrace the journey, and remember that perfection shouldn’t be the goal. One thing that was mentioned in our retreat is that a lot of couples prepare for the wedding, but not the marriage. Focus on your love and your connection to your partner. No matter how much you plan, there will always be things that don’t go exactly as expected. But that’s what makes your day uniquely yours. Focus on the moments that matter most—your vows, the people who are there to support you, and the joy of marrying the person you love.

Why you got married and what marriage means to you:

Bride: Marriage to me means choosing my person every day, every hour, and every minute. We’re built on love, trust, and respect towards one another. Having my person to have fun with, travel the world with, go through hard times with, laugh with and cry with. It’s about supporting eachother and lifting eachother up. It’s about growing up with eachother and eventually have little mini me’s running around.
Groom: I got married because Krianna is the person for me, I truly believe that. She brings out the best in me, supports me through every challenge, and shared my joy of life. Marriage is about the celebration of our deep connection and trust that we’ve built. What it means to me is that I’ve found a love that feels like home, and I’m ready to spend the rest of my life cherishing and nurturing that bond.

How to make your spouse happy:

Bride: Show appreciation and learn their love language. Laugh at their jokes even when they are really not that funny! Going golfing always makes my spouse happy also.
Groom: Be there for them. Take up new hobbies together. Show kindness and respect. Most importantly, always communicate open and honestly, and never take each other for granted.

What you look forward to the most:

Bride: Just living life together and seeing the world together. I look forward to seeing us grow within ourselfs and our marriage. I look forward to starting our family as well.
Groom: I look forward to continuting to build our life together. I’m excited for the comfort of knowing we’ll always have each other. Most of all, I’m looking forward to growing together, making memories, and creating a future where we support each other’s dreams and ambitions.

More advice for couples:

Bride: When doing your wedding planning, it’s okay if not everything goes as planned. You will have changes during the process and maybe even the day of, but just remember the imperfect moments often make the best memories. Stay true to your vision. Don’t let social media, social norms, or others make the choices for you. Lastly, take a moment with just you two during the day to get away from everyone and the excitment to soak it all in. We had our driver quickly take us to our house to spend a few minutes with our furbabies and it was such a special moment between all of us. Do a private last dance to soak in your beautiful wedding and share the last moment of your wedding night with your partner.
Groom: One piece of advice I’d love for other couples to know is that marriage is a journey, not a destination. It’s about constantly learning, growing, and adapting together. There will be ups and downs, but the key is always to communicate openly, be patient with each other, and never stop showing appreciation for one another. Don’t get too caught up in expectations—things won’t always go as planned, but those imperfections often turn into the best memories. And remember, it’s not about finding someone perfect; it’s about finding someone you’re willing to grow with, no matter what.
